BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017 is just around the corner!!BIO-EUROPE SPRING, one of the most important international partnering events in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors, with more than 12,452 one-to-one meetings, 2,373 attendees in the last edition, 1,377 participating companies, 68 exhibitors with 49 countries represented and more than 3,120 licensing opportunities posted, is fast approaching!!The Consulate of Canada in Barcelona, Global Affairs Canada, Government of Canada and ACCIÓ, Catalonia Trade & Investment, have organized, prior to the partnering event, the CANADA – CATALONIA Pre-BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017 VIRTUAL MISSION to take place on February 21st at 10h30 Ottawa time, addressed to Life Sciences companies in Canada and Catalonia, participating in BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017.ObjectivesTo promote the contact between the participating companies in Canada and Catalonia in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, that will attend BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017, with the aim to facilitate agreements, in trade, technology cooperation, partnerships and other types of collaborations.Who should participate?The event is addressed at Canadian biotech, pharmaceutical and life sciences companies with specific projects for partnerships and/ or interested in learning more about the Life Sciences Region of Catalonia and the institutions and companies that are part of it, with the view of establishing potential future contacts, further in-depth discussions at BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017 and commercial, R&D, co-development, technology transfer, licensing, joint-venture and other types of collaborations with Catalan companies attending BIO-EUROPE SPRING 2017.Did you know that....? Catalonia region in Spain, ranks second in pharmaceutical companies per capita in Europe, just behind Belgium. Catalonia is also the fourth European region in biotechnology companies per capita (behind Sweden, Switzerland and Israel) and fourth in medical technology companies (behind Israel, Sweden and Switzerland). The companies in the life sciences sector post yearly 7% of the GDP of Catalonia (2014 data) and employ more than 42,000 workers. The BioRegion of Catalonia has 824 companies, including 241 Biotech, 51 Pharma, 83 innovative Medical Technology, 217 Suppliers and Engineering firms, 133 Consulting and Professional Services, 70 eHealth companies and 29 active Investment Organizations. There are 89 research bodies and facilities, including 41 research centers, 15 university hospitals, 11 universities that offer life sciences degrees; 2 large-scale facilities like the Alba-Cells Synchrotron and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC); 7 technology centers and 13 science and technology parks with activity in the life sciences sector (Source: Biocat Directory, December 2016).
