DAMIVA INC.: Find Out How An Appearance on Dragon’s Den Helped Launch This Toronto-Founded Company’s Product

Did you know that 85% of menopausal women experience vaginal dryness symptoms?

Damiva Inc., a women’s health company headquartered in Toronto, set out to solve this problem and has pioneered the invention of the world’s first 100% natural vaginal suppository for menopausal health called, Mae by Damiva. Mae is a lubricant for vaginal dryness that maintains vaginal health through natural ingredients and pH balance.

Launched in 2013 through a successful appearance on CBC’s Dragons’ Den, Damiva has had meteoric success of the kind that many companies only dream of. In just two-and-a-half years, its product Mae, manufactured in Vaughan, Ontario, has become widely available for sale in retail pharmacies across Canada, including Shoppers’ Drug Mart, Loblaws, Rexall, Remedy’s Rx, London Drugs, IDA and Guardian.

Mae has also just made its successful debut in the US market and Damiva is currently ramping up for full-scale launch into US retail chains. Other major company milestones so far include obtaining an FDA drug listing, exporting the first batch of Mae, and obtaining listing in healthcare catalogues such as Dr. Leonards and Carol Wright Gifts.

Damiva’s CEO, Chia Chia Sun, says these achievements have been very good for business.

“Damiva’s US launch has enabled us to attract Toronto-based financing to expand our product development, brand, and team with new hires in marketing, clinical development and product development,” says Sun. “The launch has also expanded the operations of our contract manufacturer, which now has an FDA designation for manufacture and export.”

There’s no doubt that Damiva has benefited from Toronto’s network of financiers, marketers, scientists and retail experts throughout its development.

“We are very proud to have founded Damiva in Toronto, accelerated quickly into widespread Canadian distribution and now, our US launch of Mae, all within two-and-a-half years,” says Sun. “Toronto is a very capital-efficient base for us; we have the best expertise and fellow entrepreneurs who are willing to invest their services, time and money into start-ups. Our shareholders include our manufacturing and marketing firms – Dynamise Botanicals and Open Creative.”

Damiva’s story serves as inspiration for other Toronto region start-ups in human health and sciences. The company’s US launch ‎is helping establish its international footprint as an innovative, ‎pioneering women’s health company, developing best-in-class natural solutions.
